The sculpture camp from Magura
The sculpture camp from Magura is the result of the efforts made by the county local authorities, The Association of the Plastic Artists from Romania and it has had a unitary, symbolic conception even from the start.
Its opening would have marked in 1970 the 16 centuries of documentary certification of Buzau.
The idea was that for 16 years in a row, 16 different artists were to come and work here, in the clearings of Magura.
The camp was officially opened in August 1970 and was repeated every year after that, until 1985.
There would be intensive work for a whole month, so that in the end the artists would leave in the clearings of Magura one distinctive and representative work, each of them fitting perfectly in the landscape, as the art critic Ion Frunzetti would say: “The camp from Magura is the only place that gives birth to its works instantly and multiplies them one year after the other”.
The event repeated for 16 summers, the hills from Magura throbbed with creative activity in August and September and when all this was over, the place was sprinkled on a surface of 21 ha with no less than 256 stone works, genuine works of art, a print of genius.
